Hoomairah Moolla, Qamar Student

My name is Hoomairah. I have two disabilities.

I am profoundly deaf and I have cerebral palsy, Alhamdulilah

I work in a government hospital and I am a 2nd-year Arabic student of Qamar Institute.

Before I started my journey through the Quran, I found it very difficult to accept my disabilities and during those times I had low self-esteem and my self-confidence was probably zero.

I realized that – You will not get to know yourself until you know your Maker.

It is like making food – you will put all the ingredients that you like in the food, right?
And for the food to taste good – you need to know what ingredients you are putting inside.

Similarly, if you want to know who you are, you need to know who your Creator is and what the components are that we are made of, and what He says is best for us and what is not.
Here is the beautiful part of it all…

Every day before starting class we were reminded of how we are the “chosen ones”, carefully handpicked by Allah. It is not a coincidence that we are learning Allāh’s beautiful words. It is an invitation to the love letter that Allah almighty has written for us. Would u not want to experience that?

I remember my days in the past where I was so afraid of asking my manager (who is non-muslim, by the way) if I could take off on a Friday to study the Quran. I told myself there is no harm in asking, so I picked up the courage with Allāh’s help and went into her office.
What I told her, I can’t even remember. It is like a blank moment when I think about it.

She told me she would get back to me. Two weeks later she told me I could do it!
If your intention and dua is sincere, anything is possible.

I asked Allah for companionship, I asked Allah for friendship, I asked Allah for goodness.

He granted me the Quraan.

This brings me to the first Hadith we learnt in class:

“When Allah wants goodness for you He grants you the understanding of Deen” (which Quran is the basis of).

May Allah reward my teachers with extra blessings for speaking in class slowly and having to repeat themselves so that I may lip-read and follow. And may Allah reward my sisters in class as well for when I get lost I always turn to them. And this bond is forever. Alhamdulilah
